WiiKey 2 Mod Chip

clock November 9, 2008 01:01 by author alex

The WiiKey 2 is the latest chip from the team that brought us the original WiiKey and other great chips such as D2Pro. It looks like they saw there was a lot of cheaper alternatives coming on to the market to the Pro and decided to release a chip to compete with them. The WiiKey v2 has the same feature set as the D2Pro minus the J-Tag upgradability, so far they have proven to be just as stable and high quality. We did think it was a little odd the team release a new chip when Pro is so popular, but by the sounds of it the Actel IC’s used in their production were starting to cost a lot more, and we saw that from the recent price rise, so I guess this is why WiiKey 2 was born. These chips will support all consoles to date including the new D2E chip sets, a 5-wire install for the older model drives such as DMS D2B, and a 6-wire install on the D2C / D2C2 & D2E drives. These chips are perfect for D2B drives with the legs cut, as they don’t use the same points the first versions do.

It looks like the team will also be supporting the WiiKey 2 with regular firmware updates, the first config disk has already been released and we are sure more will follow when needed. Also the have made it so the chip can’t be bricked by a bad flash, there is a built in recovery mode that will allow you to safely restore the chip in the unlikely event of the power going out during an update or for some reason the flash update just did not complete, in the past this would mean one dead chip, so this feature means customers can no longer kill their WiiKey 2 attempting to update them to the latest firmware. Also they have made a region fall back recovery mode which means if the chip was tested on a PAL unit and then shipped and installed in to a NTSC unit, the chip would fallback and reset to NTSC.

Another unique function the guys have added to the WiiKey 2 is a unique serial number that is imbedded in the chip and can be checked by using the config disk, as we all know there is a big problem in the market with factories & stores producing and selling low cost clones of chips from this team, the unique serial number is a way you can safely verify that you have not been sold a clone, we saw with the v1 that in the end places were even copying the holograms supplied with the chips, so now on top of having the hologram shipped, each chip has its unique serial number that you can verify with the team to make sure you were not sold a cheaper inferior clone of their product.

There are a few other low cost chips on the market now, and we hear you saying why should we use WiiKey v2 if we can get a cheaper chip that does the same thing, this is a good question and for some of you the choice for the cheaper solutions might be right for you, they do work and have good stability and can do the job, but one thing some of the cheaper chips do lack is firmware update support, you can be assumed when buying the WiiKey 2 chips that the team will be there to make updates when needed, and even bring handy new features to the chips such as the brick blocker, so for some the cheaper chips will be the solution and for others you may wish to use a chip such as WiiKey 2 which is sitting in the middle on price and function.

Entertainment Software Association Announces 2009 E3 Expo

clock October 25, 2008 23:39 by author alex

Los Angeles to Host Video Game Industry Event in June

Washington, DC – October 22, 2008 – The 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will take place from June 2-4, 2009, at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC), the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced today. The expanded E3 will welcome all qualified computer and video game industry audiences, including international and U.S.-based media, analysts, retailers, developers and business partners to preview the latest in interactive entertainment and technology.

“Video games are the fastest growing and most compelling sector of the entertainment industry. And, this upgraded event will reflect the growth, innovation and excitement of our industry,” said Michael D. Gallagher, CEO of the ESA, which represents US computer and video game publishers and organizes the annual event. “The breadth, scope and quality of the changes made to the show will make E3 the must-attend event of the year.”

“The E3 Expo will be the pre-eminent North American gaming show next year. The new, larger event is better for industry leaders and for serious gamers,” commented John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts.

After conducting both qualitative and quantitative research, ESA officials stated changes were necessary to better meet the needs of both exhibitors and attendees— these changes include increased booth sizes, increased qualified audiences, and an intensified focus on reinforcing the high-octane growth, innovation, and captivating entertainment that are driving the computer and video game industry.

"The video game business will be twice as big in 2009 as it was in 2006 when we had the last real E3 Expo - so get ready for some fireworks!" said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America. "The changes made will ensure that the 2009 E3 Expo conveys the best of what makes us proud as entertainment leaders."

ESA also said IDG World Expo, whose principals have operated E3 since its inception in 1995, will produce the event with the ESA.

The event will be open to ESA members and non-members alike. Organizers noted they are expanding the list of companies eligible to participate. Companies involved in console, PC, online, and mobile game publishing and developing, qualified business partners, as well as makers of video game hardware and peripherals can exhibit.

Additional details, including registration, hotel and travel accommodations, and media credentialing, will be forthcoming in the next few weeks and will be available at www.e3expo.com.

The Entertainment Software Association is the U.S. association dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of companies publishing interactive games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers, and the Internet. The ESA offers services to interactive entertainment software publishers including a global anti-piracy program, owning the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), business and consumer research, federal and state government relations, First Amendment and intellectual property protection efforts. Celebrating the Mid-autumn Day.

clock September 13, 2008 21:12 by author alex

Dear Valued Customers,

Volumerate will taking Mid-Autumn Day off from Sep 13 to Sep 15. The shipment will be back on Sep 16.

What's Mid-autumn Day?

The Mid-Autumn Festival also known as the Moon Festival, Mooncake Festival, or the August Moon Festival. In Malaysia and Singapore, it is also sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival, similar in name to a different festival which falls on the fifteenth day of the Lunar New Year) is a popular Asian celebration of abundance and togetherness, dating back over 3,000 years to China's Zhou Dynasty.

The Festival falls on the 15th day of the lunar month 8 in many East Asian lunisolar calendars (usually around mid- or late-September in the Gregorian Calendar), a full moon day that occurs around the time of the Autumn Equinox. At this time, the moon is at its fullest and brightest, marking an ideal time to celebrate the abundance of the summer's harvest. The traditional food of this festival is the moon cake, of which there are many different varieties.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the two most important holidays in the Lunar calendar (the other being the Lunar New Year), and is a legal holiday in several countries. Farmers celebrate the end of the summer harvesting season on this date. Traditionally, on this day, Asian family members and friends will gather to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, and eat moon cakes, star fruit and pomeloes together. It is also common to have barbecues outside under the moon, and to put pomelo rinds on one's head. Brightly lit lanterns are often carried around by children. Together with the celebration, there appear some special customs in different parts of the country, such as burning incense, planting sweet-olive trees, lighting lanterns on towers, and fire dragon dances. Shops selling mooncakes, before the festival, often display pictures of Chang'e, floating to the moon.

Which Chip is the correct one for your console?

clock August 27, 2008 22:21 by author alex

IMPORTANT : Before deciding which chip to go for, you need to find out 2 things about what type of wii console you have

1) Find out what type of chipset you have.

Wii Console Chipset type
Console Serial
Code Range
Console Purchased
From
- to
Compatible Mod Chips
DMS, D2A & D2B
LEH100xxx to LEH134xxx
November 2006 - April 2007
D2C
LEH134xxx to LEH182xxx
April 2007 - May 2008
D2C-2
LEH182xxx to Current
May 2008 - Current
D2E
Still Unknown
Yet To be Released in UK

2) Next you Need to decide wether you drive has "cut" or "un-cut" pins, about 80% of consoles have "uncut" pins so chances are this is probably what you have and the above table of modchips can be used as a guide to which chip you need, although the below search should give you some sort of indication of wehter your drive pins are cut or not the only true way of finding out is to open up your console and have a look at the chip itself to see if any pins are missing :

cut pins
THE IMAGE ABOVE SHOWS WHAT A CONSOLE LOOKS LIKE WITH CUT PINS

If you do have pins missing then all is not lost! you can still buy a solderless solution, the D2SUN with V5B wii clip or Wasabi with V5 Clip does not use these pins so you can install either of the chips on any drive no matter what chipset you have!

How we should serve our customers?

clock June 29, 2008 03:04 by author alex

Lately read an artical for What Do B2B Customers Really Want which gave me some thoughts I'd like to express.

   1. Be personally accountable.
Don’t pass the buck somebody else in your firm; I want your skin in the game.

   2. Understand my business.
Don’t expect me to answer dozens of questions that you can get answered elsewhere.

   3. Be on my side.
Since I’m risking my career doing business with you, I expect you to represent my best interests.

   4. Design the right applications.
Don’t burden me with features and functions; tell me how your solution will help my business.

   5. Be easily accessible.
If I’m important to you, you’ll answer my email or vmail within minutes, not hours or days.

   6. Solve my problems.
I want you to be thinking about helping my firm, not selling your products.

   7. Be creative in responding to my needs.
If you can’t figure out how to help me, I ‘ll get on the web and find someone who can.

Though above 7 points were the type to B2B, for our business, most of B2C (in DealExtreme) and part of B2B(in VolumeRate, and the direction for VR is B2B finally), we think we should also try to meet these 7 points.

As we always said, we are not finding-excuse type people, but there are a couple of reasons which there is still a long distance for us to go for the customer service, maybe due to the culture difference of the Eestern and Western. Well, what we are doing now is trying to bridge this difference, improve ourselves also improve the quality of our service. Maybe that's the essense, customers are all service-oriented, right?

4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo Review

clock June 17, 2008 23:51 by author alex

Submited by Ray Chen

This 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo on VolumeRate.com has proven to be quite effective and cost efficient!  The lack of MagicGate technology should be no concern because it has so little uses.  This product features 4GB (3876 MB) of capacity or close to that; unlike those fake ones, this one does have 4GB.  I personally used it as PSP or camera memory, and so far it has been 100% effective and no failure reported.  However, in one case, the SONY-DSC-H2 Camera user reported that the transfering rate of this memory stick is 100X slower than usual.  I here to confirm that it may not be true as i've tested on different devices for transfering speed including downloading and uploading.  Compared with the Sony 4GB Magic Gate Memory Stick Pro Duo, the downloading speed is about 1/4 slower (which means if Sony Memory Stick = 6 min downloading, then this 4GB memory stick would take about 7 min 30 sec to complete).  However, the uploading speed is the same as Sony 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo.  I personally recommend this product because it is cheap compared to the Branded ones, and it has almost the same functionality.

Verdict 8.5/10
