Which Chip is the correct one for your console?

clock August 27, 2008 22:21 by author alex

IMPORTANT : Before deciding which chip to go for, you need to find out 2 things about what type of wii console you have

1) Find out what type of chipset you have.

Wii Console Chipset type
Console Serial
Code Range
Console Purchased
From
- to
Compatible Mod Chips
DMS, D2A & D2B
LEH100xxx to LEH134xxx
November 2006 - April 2007
D2C
LEH134xxx to LEH182xxx
April 2007 - May 2008
D2C-2
LEH182xxx to Current
May 2008 - Current
D2E
Still Unknown
Yet To be Released in UK

2) Next you Need to decide wether you drive has "cut" or "un-cut" pins, about 80% of consoles have "uncut" pins so chances are this is probably what you have and the above table of modchips can be used as a guide to which chip you need, although the below search should give you some sort of indication of wehter your drive pins are cut or not the only true way of finding out is to open up your console and have a look at the chip itself to see if any pins are missing :

cut pins
THE IMAGE ABOVE SHOWS WHAT A CONSOLE LOOKS LIKE WITH CUT PINS

If you do have pins missing then all is not lost! you can still buy a solderless solution, the D2SUN with V5B wii clip or Wasabi with V5 Clip does not use these pins so you can install either of the chips on any drive no matter what chipset you have!

NEW D2pro-9W (9 wires, for lastest D2C2, D2C, D2A, D2B, DMS)

clock June 12, 2008 23:11 by author alex

Well the guys that brought us Wii-Key and then D2C.Key have done it again, we are proud to introduce to you the latest in the line of great Wii mod chips the D2Pro v2 SPI with D2C2 support. That’s right, the team that brought us the very first D2C mod chip have done it again and with the D2Pro v2 and been the first to release a working chip for the latest D2C2 Wii consoles. For those of you who don’t already know, a new model Wii console has been found in the market since March 08 that until now were un-modable, that is until this latest D2Pro D2C2 version was released. The great news for people that have just bought their Wii or already own a D2C2 chipset is that the latest D2Pro will support your D2C2 Wii as well as all other Wii models on the market, one chip for all consoles. So it’s safe to say that if you bought your Wii since April that you will have one of these new D2C2 consoles and the D2Pro is a 100% working solution for these new consoles.

Another thing you will notice with the D2Pro v2 is that it’s now a lower wire solution then their previously released version, the D2Pro v2 is now just 9-wires for D2C consoles like that of the recently released Wasabi. Like Wasabi, at 9-wires the D2Pro will have all region support so you can play NTSC games on PAL consoles and visa versa. The other ground breaking function added to this latest version D2Pro 9 wire is that it will now work on all console versions and not just the D2C models, yes that’s right, if you are the owner of a DMS or even D2B Wii, you now have the option of running the D2Pro chip in them with just 5-wires.

This is particularly great for those people that have a D2B machine with the legs cut off the controller IC, because this new D2Pro does not use the same points as the WiiKey and thus you do not have to drill away at the controller IC to expose the legs for the install, this drilling into the IC has caused many people to damage their consoles while trying to install a WiiKey, so this new v2 SPI will be a real blessing for those people. The other really hand function added is DVD firmware upgrade support, so in the future you will be able to update the chip using either a DVD with the firmware on it, or also use the D2ProG J-Tag programmer. We personally think having both options for updating the firmware is great, because if in the future for any reason the DVD updating becomes not possible, you always have the J-Tag to fall back on, this is something we think the D2Pro has over the Wasabi and we might even see if come into play sometime in the future, so it’s safe to say the D2Pro v2 really is a future proof solution for all Wii consoles out there.

Another function that the D2Pro D2C2 has over the D2C.Key is its flash upgradeable via a J-Tag connection, this means end users will be able to flash update their bios on the D2Pro mod chip when the team releases new firmware upgrade. This is really a very valuable feature and means the chip can always evolve if required, a perfect example of this is if a game came out that is not supported or has some conflict with the current firmware installed, D2Pro team can just make a firmware update for the D2Pro and you could upgrade the chip to the latest firmware to resolve the problem, which is similar to how the Wikey worked. Don’t get us wrong, the D2C.Key is really a great chip and has a proven record of stability and reliability, but in our opinion, the only thing it does lack is the ability to update the firmware if needed like the latest generation D2Pro Wii mod chip can.

If your after a Wii modchip that has come from a team that has proven themselves in the industry as having the best and most stable chips for Wii, and taking into consideration all the features and benefits we have mentioned above, we think the D2Pro 9 wire will be an excellent choice if not the best choice. For a Wii chip that’s easy to install, has the ability to upgrade and has been developed by a team that has already proven that they produce top of the line products that do the job without any major problems, you can’t go wrong if you buy the D2Pro modchip here today!

Easy Installation / Only 9 Wires

The installation procedure for D2Pro is significantly faster then previous 28 or 18 wire chips, and the level of difficulty has also been reduced as only 3 wires need to go on to legs on controller IC, for those capable of installing the 28 wire chips, you will find install times for the D2Pro to be reduced dramatically to around 30% of the time it would take for the 28 wire chips or even less. As some of us all know, a reduction in wires on a chip can sometimes be a bad thing, especially before the teams have really sorted out their code. With saying that we feel confidant in saying you will see the same stability from the D2Pro 9-wire as you have come to expect from the 28 wire solutions, if not better because of the fact that the firmware will be upgradeable, the D2Pro is really rock solid!

Flash Upgradeable / J-Tag Programmer

Another very powerful feature of the D2Pro is its J-Tag connector that will allow for the onboard Actel to be re-programmed by your PC. This is done in conjunction with a device sold separately called a USB J-Tag programmer, you are able to buy this J-Tag programmer as an add-on product to use with your D2Pro chip. Simply plug the programmer into your pc via a USB cable, then connect the D2Pro chip to the programmer via the J-Tag cable and run the flash upgrading software to update your chip to the latest version of their bios. This feature really means the D2Pro chip would last you for years as even if a new game comes out that has a problem with the old firmware, there is no need to upgrade to a newer chip, the guys will just release a firmware update and your chip will have the latest functions or fixes.

Simplicity & Functionality

D2Pro was made with user simplicity at heart. After installation which may we add should still be left to a professional, it will function without having to do anything extra to setup the chip. There is no need for config disks or any messing around, the only thing you may wish to do is update the firmware when a new version is released. D2Pro will automatically detect which type of media has been inserted and configures the drive accordingly. Original and backup Wii and GC games from different regions will boot directly, and even a lot of games from regions with different video system can be booted directly. Gamecube audio streaming fix is built in as well.

Actel Core Logic / Crystal Added

The D2Pro has an operating bandwidth of 350Mhz, which is extremely good when compared with around 8MHz for serial port based mod chips. D2Pro uses an Actel flash-based FPGA IC, which has many powerful features amongst being one of the worlds most reliable & stable IC’s. It has an ultra fast clock speed and an incredibly low core power consumption of just 1.5V, this will literally mean the core will remain cool all the times. This in turn leads to less strain on your Wii, and no need for added cooling options. Another added hardware feature that has been added for stability is a Crystal on the PCB, something no other Wii chip has done to date

DSTT REVIEW

clock June 7, 2008 01:14 by author alex

(Submitted by Ray Chen, June 2008.)

DSTT is by far the easiest card to use for beginners.  Its high compatibility with NDS ROMS is comparable to R4 or may even surpass it.  It also features 100% download play as well as link play, and don't forget the wi-fi connection play.  Compared to DSone, DSTT has proven to be more powerful in terms of gaming (DSone has moonshell within its firmware), and link play.  It can be said that DSTT should be the new generation of R4.

However, it does have its down side.  The Failure rate of the card is significant.  About 3/100 cards failed to be read, and 2/100 cards may stuckin loading screen forever; I concluded that the failure rate of the card is about 5%.

Another thing that should be noticed is the awkward situation where DSTT fails to create a SAV. File.  This is not of major concern as it is not the hardware failure, but software failure.  If this happens, simply put the NDS ROMS into many different folders; each folder should contain about 10 NDS Roms.  Reason behind this is due to the limit of files restricted in one folder for the DSTT, I believe it is limited up to only 50 files, and after 50 files in one folder, DSTT has a high chance to fail creating a SAV. File.

How to Improve?
Manufacturers should treat their products more seriously, I've found some of the DSTT to be dirty and those ones break very easily.
Handlers should not tie 10 DSTTs at once or put them together too tight with an elastic band, as it will bend the DSTT card and sometimes lead to failures.
Broken ones should have warranty and insurance policy with it, as the rate is high; this way will support long term customers as well as one time consumer.

In the end, I believe it is safe to say that consumer benefits most out of DSTT compared to R4 and others, as I highly recommended it.

Verdict 9/10  (10/10 if the failure rate is between 99%~100%)

R4 can now use expansion pack for EZV----Extract from gbatemp.net

clock May 23, 2008 11:57 by author alex

You can now use the R4 or the other slot 1 carts to load GBA games in the 3 in 1 expansion pack for EZ V.
BigBoss from the EZ forum has released his program.

The software to do what you want is still in production, but a workable version is availabe from BigBoss
currently: http://www.tabbal.net/copyTest-TR7.zip

Discussion on it is in the thread here:http://ezflash.sosuke.com/post-30693.html#30693

To use it, basically do this:
-Get the program and patch it with the appropriate DLDI for your slot 1 device, and stick it on your microSD card somewhere. Instructions, dldi files and dldi patching programs can be found here:
http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/
-Make a folder in the root of your microSD card and name it "GBA" (without quotes)
-Inside that folder, make another and name it "Save" (without quotes) so you now have x:/GBA/Save
-Obtain EZ4 client, and use it to patch your GBA games (GBA homebrew shouldn't need patches)
-put the patched *.gba files into the GBA directory on your microSD
-run the program on your DS, use left/right to pick a file and follow the on screen dialog
-supports 2 banks, 0 and 128 (halfway through the NOR). Press R and L to toggle the bank. Make sure you don't use ROMs larger than 16MB or you will overflow the bank. A to flash as usuall. Note that SRAM will be updated as if it were a single ROM.
-when it is done, turn off your DS, remove the Slot 1 card, turn on your DS and in it's menu press the start GBA button.
-If you want to boot from the slot 1 to the expansion pack use this app:gbaswitch

-When you change to a different game, it should backup the save file to the Save directory you created earlier

Many thanks to BigBoss and cory1492. Without them, this would not be possible.

GSM-900 and GSM-1800

GSM-900 and GSM-1800 are used in most parts of the world: Europe, Brazil (GSM-850 and 1800), Middle East, Africa and most of Asia.

GSM-850

GSM-850 and GSM-1900 are used in the United States, Canada, and many other countries in the Americas. GSM-850 is also sometimes called GSM-800 because this frequency range was known as the "800MHz Band" when it was first allocated for AMPS usage in the United States in 1983.

GSM-1900

GSM-850 and GSM-1900 are used in the United States, Canada, and many other countries in the Americas.

GSM-450

Another less common GSM version is GSM-450[1]. It uses the same frequency as and can co-exist with old analog NMT systems. NMT is a first generation (1G) mobile phone system which was primarily used in Nordic countries, Eastern Europe and Russia prior to the introduction of GSM.
